The Black Friday Thread
CONSUMER ADVICE: Anticipation rises over Black Friday

"Black Friday" is two months away, but consumers are already convening online to swap rumors of the deals that retailers will offer on the most hyped shopping day of the year., a Web site that exposed Wal-Mart's Black Friday deals more than a month early last year, has opened its forums and is allowing people to post retailers' advertising circulars and gab about strategies for day-after-Thanksgiving shopping.
Although no ads for the upcoming Black Friday have been posted yet on the site, shoppers have started to discuss everything from the Black Friday scene at specific retailers to what they're planning to wear while waiting in line for stores to open.
Black Friday has taken on a life of its own online, where and other Web sites aim to scoop Black Friday ads weeks before retailers release them. Instead of waiting for advertising circulars stuffed in Thanksgiving Day newspapers, shoppers flock to Web sites like and, which will start up in October. The day after Thanksgiving is dubbed "Black Friday" because it was known as the day when retailers move out of the red -- debt -- and into the black -- profit.

I know I'm anxious to see the ads. It might be the only way I can afford gifts this year.

I LOVE Black Friday! Four of my friends and I make it an annual event. We meet at the mall at 5:00 and then we run like mad from store to store getting the early bird gift cards and ornaments. Last year, we got $25 in GC and three ornaments. Then we hits the stores. I got $250 leather jackets for $50 each and the matching gloves for $10 (reg. $25) I also got a $200 jewelry armoire for $50. All in all, I spent about $500 and got about $1200 worth of stuff! I even make a yearly CD of Christmas music for the ride to the stores. We finish up with lunch at a nice restaurant. But, I avoid Wal-Mart like the plague. :0happy0194:
