Question About Freezers

DOES ANYONE HAVE AN EXTRA FREEZER FOR STORAGE. IF SO IS IT VERTICAL OR HORIZONTAL..........MANUAL OR AUTOMATIC DEFROST.........ANY ADVICE OR PROS AND CONS???????i dunno i dunno

I do. It is horizontal. It is a manual defrost, so maybe once a year, we have to clean the ice formations out of it. Not a big deal. We get a lot of use out of it.

We have an upright and it is a manual defrost. DH says you can pack more into a horizontal one but I manage to keep this one packed and I can easily see what I have.

Upright and Automatic defrost. I got over that having to defrost a freezer years ago - not worth my time. I think they frost up more in the south than in other areas. I use to have to defrost mine every 2 to 3 months. I prefer openning the door and it being frost free.

There were 2 things I promised myself when I retired. A single family
house with an attached garage and a separate freezer for extra storage.
I got the house in 2002 and the upright frost free freezer a year later
that has it's own place in the garage.

We had a chest freezer when I was growing up on the farm. For me
it is hard to reach into a chest freezer when you have to get to something near the bottom.

The upright brand that I bought is a Frigidaire. Got a great deal at
Lowes and they delivered it FREE.

I have 2 extra storage freezers...very much needed when you butcher your own beef. I have a vert. and horiz. freezer and one is frost free and one is not. The frost free uses more energy supposedly and the manual defrost freezer has to only be defrosted once a year or so. I do NOT prefer the chest type freezer, there is no way to really organize a chest freezer and your food at the bottom is forgotten. You will pay a lot less for a manual defrost freezer and I believe they cause less freezer burn for some reason....just has been that way from my experience.
