Tax Online Sales at Point of Purchase
Below the radar of the political campaign season, a legislative fight on Capitol Hill is building that could have a dramatic impact on your online shopping. Governors, state officials and retailers are making an aggressive push to apply state and local sales taxes to online purchases. This effort has existed, in at least some form, since the late 1990s. But, the near exponential growth in online commerce and tight budgets in many states have put a new urgency in their efforts. And, they do have a point.
