Default Probiotic may help keep the cOLd bug awaY

Get a bacteria boost and you can improve your immunity, according to a recent study in the online journal Environmental Health, which found that eating Lactobacillus reuteri bacteria can keep you healthy. Researchers compared 94 workers who took a daily dose of this probiotic (found in healthy digestive systems) with 87 workers who took a placebo. The L. reuteri poppers were less likely to miss work and reported 56 percent fewer colds. "This strain stimulates the immune system and fights pathogens [disease-causing microorganisms]," explains study coauthor Anders Zachrisson. Only certain yogurts contain the cold-fighting strain of probiotic. Find it in Stonyfield Farm yogurts or get it from supplements: Try one dose of 100 million live bacteria daily (read the label).
