Do You Need To Bust Out Of A Rut?
- Talk to somebody. Whether your waiting in line to get your morning coffee, or waiting to cross the street, talk to someone. It could lead to a life changing romance. At the very least, you'll feel better. A study in the Journal of Personality and Psychology found that talking to new people activates the pleasure center in your brain, which is usually only triggered by food, drugs, and money. Just chatting with somebody new has a positive effect on your mood.
- Give up TV for 2 weeks. According to Nielsen Media research, the average person spends about 2 months a year watching television. Turn off the tube for two weeks and you'll have an extra 56 hours. Spend that time playing with your kids, starting a new project, or exercise. It'll lower your blood pressure, too.
- Come up with 25 new ideas in 10 minutes. When you wake up tomorrow, write down whatever you think of, don't critique or edit yourself. According to the book How To Think Like Leonardo Davinci, you only need one idea that works to motivate yourself. Plus, a survey of more than 1,000 managers found that innovation and creativity are the most important qualities for corporate survival.
Don't get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life.
