Dissolve 1 package or 1 tbs yeast in 2tbs warm water. Set aside.
Combine the following in a large mixing bowl:
5cups all purpose or bread flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
3 tsp baking powder
2 tbs of sugar
Into flour mixture, cut in 1cup crisco with a fork or pastry cutter until it resembles crumbs.
Add yeast mixture and 2 cups of buttermilk to flour mixture. Blend well and roll out on lightly floured surface to about 1 1/2 inches thick. You can cut them out with a biscuit cutter, but you have to keep reworking the scraps. I just use a pizza cutter and cut the dough into squares. Bake at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes and brush with butter. NOTE: The dough nor the biscuits have to raise before baking. There is no rise time. Delicious and very easy to make.
