Ace Hardware Corporationís Helpful Hands High School Painting Project Contest
You will need:
-High school name, address and phone number
-Permission and contact information from a parent/guardian if you are a minor
-The current number of students
-Your 100- to 150-word essay on why the high school is in need of a paint makeover
- Contact information for the high school's principal (including
title, daytime phone number and email address) and his/her permission
-One video or three photos that showcase the area of the high school in need of a makeover (pictures and videos should not include people)
-Information about the area of the high school in need of the makeover, including square footage of the area to be painted
CONTEST BACKGROUND: The purpose of Ace Hardware Corporationís Helpful Hands High School Painting Project Contest is for Ace Hardware Corporation to recognize the need for, and provide, painting improvements in high schools located across the fifty United States.
Entry Period: Begins at 12:00:01 a.m. Central Time on May 1, 2010 and ends at 11:59:59 p.m. CT on May 31, 2010.
Proposed Improvement Location: one or more area(s) on the Eligible High School property that is/are being nominated for the painting improvement prize in this Contest. The Proposed Improvement Location could be one large area or multiple smaller areas combined and considered as one project. The Proposed Improvement Location must be designated for student use (teachersí lounges, administration offices, etc. are ineligible).
Finalist: the five Entries from each state that receive the highest scores from among all Entries received for that state after the first round of judging and are verified as eligible and in compliance with these Official Rules.
Grand Prize Winner: the Eligible High School named in the Entry from each state that receives the highest score from among the other Finalists for that state after the second round of judging.
Runner up Winners: the Eligible High School named in the Entry from each state that receives the second highest score from among the other Finalists for that state after the second round of judging.
ENTRY DETAILS: To submit an Entry in the Contest, log on to the Contest Website during the Entry Period and (a) complete all information requested in the online Application Form, (b) attach your Essay and Visual, and (c) transmit the Application Form, Essay and Visual as instructed online for Sponsorís receipt by 11:59:59 p.m. CT on May 31, 2010. Only one Entry may be submitted per Eligible Entrant (but an Eligible High School may receive multiple nominations from different Eligible Entrants). If multiple Entries are received for the same Eligible High School, each Entry will be judged separately on its own merits.
PRINCIPAL FOLLOW UP: After processing of the Entry by Sponsor or its agent, the Principal named in the Application Form will be sent a confirmatory email at the email address provided for the Principal in the Application Form.
FIRST ROUND JUDGING: At the conclusion of the Entry Period, all Entries will be judged by an independent judging organization based on the following criteria (which will each be given equal weight): (a) a significant need for a paint renovation exists in the Proposed Improvement Location as demonstrated in the Entry materials; and (b) the emotional significance of the Essay and Visual.
SECOND ROUND JUDGING: Once verified and after completion of additional information collection, the five Finalists from each state will be judged by the Sponsor based on the following criteria (which will each be given equal weight): (a) Ace retail store penetration in the market in which the Eligible High School is located; (b) Sponsorís marketing needs for the market in which the Eligible High School is located as determined based on market size as measured by Nielsen 2009-10 DMA list; (c) ability for the Proposed Improvement to be completed using the Grand Prize resources; and (d) perceived need for financial assistance and value to school of winning a prize based on per pupil expenditure as reported by the Principal.
PRIZES: Fifty (50) Grand Prizes (one from each state): $2000 in paint and/or painting supplies/equipment from the Local Ace Retailer and assistance from the Local Ace Retailer in planning the Proposed Improvement and securing volunteers from the community for one eight (8) hour workday.
Fifty (50) Runner Up Prizes (one from each state): $500 Ace Gift Card.
AWARDING OF PRIZES: The fifty (50) potential Grand Prize Winners (and the Entrants who nominated them), and the fifty (50) potential Runner Up Winners (and the Entrants who nominated them), will be notified in or around September, 2010 by mail, email and/or phone.
GRAND PRIZE FULFILLMENT: The Local Ace Retailer will attempt to schedule the service day for the Grand Prize Winner between October and December 2010 with volunteers that the Local Ace Retailer and/or Grand Prize Winner may secure, but actual dates may vary and are ultimately at Sponsorís discretion subject to Eligible High School approval.
