Thumbs down Holly Hobbie?

What the Heck is the deal with the toy/cartoon companies 'reinventing' all of the old characters? I hate it! They never look like they did before, they don't talk the same, there is nothing but that name that is the same...doesn't that make them a new doll?

I seen an ad for the new Holly Hobbie dolls...it is supposed to be Holly's Great Grand-daughter....come on...The doll is cute, but come on....are us Generation X'ers that bad about wanting to relive our childhoods?

Maybe it is just me.....speechless

I LOVE Monchichis...I still have a little one that I hung from my mom's rear view mirror when I was a kid. Care Bears were great too! My brother and I played Ninja Turtles together ALL the time. Smurfs are my all-time favorites though.

I still have the original cabbage patch dolls from coleco. Remember the wait list for them? My mom stood in line at Toys R US for 4 hours so I would get one for Christmas in 1982
I would do the same for my daughter

Talking

I had no idea that Monchichis were back too! I still catch myself singing that commercial for them from time to time...

Speaking of the Smurfs ....have you ever gone back and watched the old episodes on Cartoon Network? I watched it one day with my daughter when she was home sick and thought "Oh I used to watch this when I was a kid!" OH MY.....I never caught it as a kid, but there are some REALLY adult stuff in it. Oh wel, she didn't catch it either.

Yeah, I had a babysitter when I was a little kid that refused to let me watch it at her house because it was a "bad" show full of black magic. My mom thought she was weird anyway though. Her 2 year old daughter died and she thought nothing of it.

My kids don't catch all the stuff in them either...same with Spongebob! Holy cow, they say a lot of things!

Yeah, I'm with you. I know they try to modernize the characters, but it just isn't the same. I HATED what they did with Strawberry Shortcake. I refused to buy my daughter any of that stuff, but she didn't like it anyway. Growing up my entire room was SS...canopy bed, kitchen, stool, bike, games, dolls, lunch box, etc. They also changed the Care Bears to where the heads are bigger than the bodies and I don't like that either. I haven't seen the Holly Hobbie.

Some characters they HAVE kept the same, but it was boys' stuff, like HeMan and Ninja Turtles, etc.

Never seen power puff girls...I think my kids have seen it a couple times, but only if there is nothing better on. Is it bad? I know my sister is VERY into Sailor Moon, and OMG I've been around while she's watching it and I'm just like, "WHAT?!?" She loves all of that anime stuff and I think it's borderline pornographic. Most of her collection isn't even in english, so who knows what they are saying? She taught herself Japanese so she knows, but she won't tell us.

Wowmarker

She taught herself Japanese? Now that is REALLY loving a cartoon!

Here is the new and 'improved' Holly Hobbie....She looks like the new SS to me!

http://www.hollyhobbieandfriends.com...ends/index.jsp

I too have tried to keep my daughter interested in 'different' cartoons. she prefers Maggie and the Ferocious Beast...and hey, that is fine with me...good cartoon and not SO MANY toys to buy because they don't make them.
