Former Beverly Hills, 90210 star Luke Perry has signed on to join the cast of Law + Order: Svu after rejecting an offer to reprise his role in the hit TV series.

Perry's former castmates Tori Spelling, Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty have signed up to appear in the forthcoming spin off series.

But the 41-year-old actor, who has enjoyed limited success since leaving the show in 1995, has instead signed on to appear in the criminal drama's season premiere.

The hour-long special will also feature guest appearances by Roseanne star Sara Gilbert and Lost actress Julie Bowen.

According to celebrity blog PerezHilton.com, Perry will couple with Bowen to play a father accused of abusing their foster child.

Just last month, the actor explained his decision not to take part in the show, saying: "I can't re-imagine it currently. It's just not something that I've thought about to be quite honest, I don't see it happening."

Perry's episode is set to air this September.

Katie Holmes has arrived in New York City ahead of her Broadway debut in Arthur Miller's 'All My Sons'.

The actress was photographed around the Big Apple on Wednesday and Thursday.

Previews for the show – Holmes' Broadway debut – start Sept. 18 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. The play also stars John Lithgow, Dianne Wiest and Patrick Wilson and will officially open on Oct. 16.

Holmes, 29, will be in the production for 16 weeks. She and hubby Tom Cruise plan to stay in the city during that time.

"Katie's not a celebrity type," the play's producer Eric Falkenstein has said. "She's done brilliant work in films like Pieces of April and The Ice Storm."

The actress' character, Ann, is a woman who visits the family of her former lover, a missing pilot.

Ticket prices for the Saturday and Sunday matinees will go as high as $116.50, with Wednesday matinees selling for $111.50.

Based on advance ticket sales, Holmes has been underselling Cruise's ex Nicole Kidman.

Holmes will also make a guest appearance on ABC's 'Eli Stone' this fall.

New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez wants his original pre-nuptial agreement with wife Cynthia to stand in their divorce battle, the New York Daily News reports.

The 33-year-old, who is the highest-paid player in baseball with a $275 million contact, says in new papers being filed in Florida today that his marriage is "irretrievably broken" but he wants accusations he cheated to be removed from the court record.

Rodriguez argues that claims by his wife that he "emotionally abandoned his wife and children" and carried on "extramarital affairs and other marital misconduct" are "immaterial and impertinent and should be stricken."

Cynthia is seeking to maintain her "high standard of living" through alimony and child support as well as their $12 million estate and "equitable distribution" of all assets.

Rodriguez's filing states Cynthia is a "loving and nurturing mother" and he pledges to pay "reasonable and bona fide expenses" per a co-parenting agreement for daughters Natasha, 3, and Ella, 3 months.

Cynthia filed for divorce earlier this month, just six days after Us Weekly broke the news that A-Rod was making late night visits to Madonna's apartment.

Cynthia's attorney has A-Rod had an "affair of the heart" with the 49-year-old singer.

NEW YORK (AP) - Federal prosecutors have decided not to pursue a criminal case into how Heath Ledger obtained the powerful painkillers that contributed to his overdose death this year, a law enforcement official said Wednesday.

Prosecutors in the U.S. attorney's office in Manhattan had been overseeing a Drug Enforcement Administration probe into whether the painkillers found in Ledger's system were obtained illegally. But the prosecutors have bowed out "because they don't believe there's a viable target," said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because no charges have been filed.

The decision comes after recent reports that actress Mary-Kate Olsen was demanding immunity before answering questions about the startling death of her close friend and his drug use. Authorities say she was the first person called by a masseuse who found the 28-year-old "Dark Knight" actor's lifeless body in his Manhattan apartment.

The DEA had obtained a subpoena that could have forced Olsen if she continued to hold out. But the subpoena, issued in April, is no longer valid because it was contingent upon prosecutors pursuing the case, the official said Wednesday. The official added that the case could still be revived if evidence of a crime emerges.

There was no immediate response to a message left with spokeswomen for the U.S. attorney's office and Olsen's attorney, Michael C. Miller.

DEA investigators suspect the painkillers found in Ledger's system, oxycodone and hydrocodone, were obtained with phony prescriptions or other illegal means. Oxycodone is sold as OxyContin and hydrocodone as Vicodin.

Miller insisted this week that Olsen, a former child star on the sitcom "Full House," had already told the government she "does not know the source of the drugs Mr. Ledger consumed."

Other potential witnesses apparently answered questions voluntarily, including doctors, Ledger's ex-girlfriend Michelle Williams and people in his apartment around the time of his death.

Other drugs taken by Ledger, including anti-anxiety medication and sleeping pills, were prescribed legally by doctors in California and Texas.

The medical examiner's office wouldn't say what concentrations of each drug were found but made clear he was killed by the combination - not an excess of any one drug in particular. It's common for the DEA to investigate an overdose death with so many different drugs involved, a DEA spokesman said last month.

The masseuse discovered Ledger's body on Jan. 22. Police say she spent nine minutes making three calls to Olsen before dialing 911 for help, then called the actress a fourth time after paramedics arrived. At some point during the flurry of frantic calls, Olsen, who was in California, summoned her personal security guards to the apartment to help, police said.

Ledger died after filming "The Dark Night," the latest movie in the "Batman" series, in which he has earned rave reviews for playing a maniacal Joker. The film had taken in more than $400 million domestically as of Monday.

Lisa Marie Presley is expecting twins

NEW YORK (AP) - Lisa Marie Presley is expecting twins, her spokeswoman, Cindy Guagenti, said Wednesday.

The babies are expected to arrive in the fall.

Presley - daughter of Elvis Presley and actress Priscilla Presley - announced her pregnancy on her MySpace page in March, saying she was forced to go public with the news after photos of her looking heavier were ridiculed in the media.

The 40-year-old singer has two children from her marriage to musician Danny Keough, which ended in 1994. She was briefly married to Michael Jackson and Nicolas Cage.

Presley married music producer Michael Lockwood in January 2006.

"It's her time to celebrate with her husband," Priscilla Presley said Tuesday in an interview with "Entertainment Tonight.""My daughter is a very family girl. She loves children, and I know that she and Michael have been hoping for this for a long time."

She said twins run in the family "on Elvis' side and on my side too. I have twin brothers, and then, of course, Elvis had a twin brother (who died at birth)."

McConaughey to plant son's placenta in orchard

NEW YORK (AP) - Matthew McConaughey says the birth of his son will help bring a little joy to others in the world someday. The actor kept the placenta from the July birth of his son and plans to plant it in an orchard, he tells CNN's "House Call with Dr. Sanjay Gupta" in interview scheduled to air in two parts Aug. 9 and Aug 16.

McConaughey says he hopes it will fertilize the land, a ritual long followed in several cultures.

"It's going to be in the orchards and it's going to bear some wonderful fruit," he says, according to an interview transcript. "When I was in Australia, they had a placenta tree that was on the river ... and all the placentas of all that tribe, all that clan, whatever aboriginal tribe that was, all the placentas went under that one tree and it was this huge behemoth of just health and strength.

"This tree was just growing taller and stronger above the rest of Mother Nature around it. It was gorgeous."

McConaughey also says he and his girlfriend Camila Alves have enjoyed integrating their new baby, Levi Alves McConaughey, into their lives. Already they've started introducing him to the "sights and the sounds" of the world - including a John Mellencamp concert.

"You're never told in our house, 'Shh, Levi is sleeping.' No. Get used to the ambiance. Come with us. That's how I was raised," he says.

Sugarland founder files $1.5M lawsuit against band

ATLANTA (AP) - A founder of the country band Sugarland is suing the two current members of the popular group for $1.5 million.

According to a lawsuit filed late last month in U.S. District Court in Atlanta, Kristen Hall was to get a cut of the group's profits even after she left in 2005 for a solo career. The lawsuit says Hall, who founded the band in 2002, has an agreement with Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush to equally share profits and losses.

Hall says in the lawsuit that she has been excluded from the group's profits since she left.

Sugarland's publicist referred calls to the band's attorney, Gary Gilbert, who was unavailable for comment.

The band's album, "Love on the Inside," released last month, is No. 1 on Billboard music charts.
