PASADENA, Calif. (AP) - Cloris Leachman has been chosen as grand marshal for next year's Rose Parade.

The actress, who has an Oscar and eight Emmys, will head the 120th Tournament of Roses on Jan. 1 in Pasadena. The parade's theme is "Hats Off to Entertainment."

The 82-year-old "Dancing With the Stars" contestant said Friday she's thrilled to be grand marshal of a parade that - in her words - "is older than I am."

Leachman won an Oscar as best supporting actress for the 1971 film "The Last Picture Show"; her Emmy wins span from Mary Tyler Moore's classic sitcom in the '70s to "Malcolm in the Middle" in 2006.

Wonderful choice

PARIS (AP) - Hospital officials say 37-year-old French actor Guillaume Depardieu has died from complications linked to a sudden case of pneumonia.

The son of French movie star Gerard Depardieu had been hospitalized since Sunday night, said officials at the Raymond-Poincare de Garches hospital in the western suburbs of Paris.

Guillaume Depardieu won the prize in 1996 as the most promising young actor at the Cesar awards - France's equivalent of the Academy Awards - for his role in the film "Les Apprentis" (The Apprentices).

He starred with his father in a 1991 film, but they had a public falling-out in 2003. Guillaume Depardieu had his right leg amputated in 2003 to end years of pain from a bacterial infection following a motorcycle accident in 1996.

Very sad news......

LONDON — British newspapers are reporting that two people who worked for David Beckham and his wife were arrested after some of the couple's possessions were spotted on an Internet auction site.
Both the tabloid Sun and the Daily Mirror say in Tuesday's editions that two housekeepers at the Beckham's mansion northeast of London were arrested and questioned by police last week.
The newspapers say some of Beckham's soccer memorabilia had been placed on eBay. Dresses belonging to former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham were also reportedly for sale.
No one has been charged. Hertfordshire Police said only that they are investigating a theft. Representatives of the Beckhams declined to comment.

Star Jones going after the View gals again...

http://tv.msn.com/tv/hotgossip/10-13-08_3/?GT1=28103

IMHO the show has always stunk. Nothing more boring on
TV then a bunch of women all talking at the same time so
that you can't distinguish what any of them are saying.
Plus how frequently they attack their guests and basically
put them in embarassing situations. How is that entertainment?

Tim McGraw upset by label's decision

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tim McGraw says his record label, Curb Records, released a greatest hits package of his songs against his wishes and without his involvement.

McGraw, 41, said in a statement Tuesday that he's been working on a new studio album for more than a year, playing some of the new songs on tour and wanted to release the CD this fall.

But he said instead Curb Records released the greatest hits collection - his third overall and second since just 2006 - last week to extend his recording contract term.

"I'm saddened and disappointed that my label chose to put out another hits album instead of new music," McGraw said. "I've only had one studio album since my last hits package. It has to be just as confusing to the fans as it is to me."

The singer said he had no involvement in the creation or presentation of the record, "Greatest Hits 3."

The 12-track disc includes McGraw hits going back to 1995 up to his current single, "Let It Go." It also includes two tracks not previously released on any of McGraw's albums: "Find Out Who Your Friends Are" with Tracy Lawrence and Kenny Chesney, and "Nine Lives" with the rock group Def Leppard.

"Sure I love the songs and I don't want to take anything away from all the creative people who were part of making those records. But the whole concept is an embarrassment to me as an artist.

"In the spirit of the election year, I would simply say to my fans 'I'm Tim McGraw and I don't approve their message,'" he said.

Curb Records did not immediately respond to a phone message left at their Nashville office.

McGraw has been with Curb, an independent label, since his 1993 debut. Other artists on the label's roster include LeAnn Rimes, Jo Dee Messina and Rodney Atkins.

Gary Coleman pleads not guilty

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Gary Coleman pleaded not guilty to charges of disorderly conduct and reckless driving Tuesday, his lawyer said.

Both charges are misdemeanors and stem from a September incident at a bowling alley in Payson, about 60 miles south of Salt Lake City. Coleman lives in nearby Santaquin.

According to court documents, Coleman, his wife and his bodyguard were bowling in early September when Colt Rushton took a few photos of Coleman with his cell-phone camera and took a few more of Coleman's truck in the parking lot.

Rushton's lawyer, Dustin Lance, said Coleman's wife took Rushton's cell phone, a scuffle ensued and then Coleman ran into Rushton with his truck as he was backing out of the parking lot.

Coleman's attorney, Randy Kester, said the actor didn't do anything wrong and was just trying to leave the parking lot undisturbed.

"He simply acted accordingly with what normal human beings would do," Kester said. "He never intend to do anything but come there in peace and leave there in peace. Had it not been that he's Gary Coleman, we wouldn't even be talking about it."

The 40-year-old former star of "Diff'rent Strokes" (which aired from 1978 to 1986) Coleman also faces a civil lawsuit filed by Rushton. Kester said Coleman wouldn't consider a plea deal because he said Coleman didn't break the law and that it might entitle Rushton to monetary damages.

Lance said he's not concerned or surprised with Coleman's plea.

"It has no effect whatsoever on the civil case," he said.

This isn't Coleman's first run-in with the law in Utah.

In July, Coleman was cited for disorderly conduct in Provo after witnesses said they saw him arguing with his wife. Authorities said the two were in his truck having a heated discussion about their relationship when two people saw him hit the steering wheel with his hands, yell at her and run around his truck with his arms in the air. The witnesses feared for his wife's safety, according to the police report. He was later ordered to pay a fine.

Default Madonna to get divorce

Reports: Madonna and Ritchie to announce divorce
Oct. 15, 2008, 6:47 AM EST
LONDON (AP) -- Madonna and filmmaker Guy Ritchie are to end their marriage after nearly eight years, British newspapers reported Wednesday.

Citing unnamed sources, The Sun and Daily Mail said the couple hoped to have a divorce finalized by Christmas. The Sun said that Madonna, 50, had wanted to wait until her latest world tour wraps up in Brazil in December before announcing the split.

The singer will perform concerts Wednesday and Thursday in Boston as her "Sticky and Sweet" tour continues.

Barbara Charone, Madonna's spokeswoman in London, declined comment on the reports. Ritchie's mother, Lady Amber Leighton, told reporters the family wouldn't be making any statement to the media.

This is the second time this year that the superstar couple's marriage has come under the media microscope. Over the summer, Madonna was linked — unfairly, she said — to the breakup of New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez and his ex-wife Cynthia.

In July, Madonna's U.S. publicist released a statement that said the singer and Ritchie had "no plans to divorce."

Madonna and Ritchie married in December 2000 at a Scottish castle. The couple have two children: Rocco, 8, and David Banda, 3, who was adopted from Malawi in 2006. Madonna also has a 12-year-old daughter, Lourdes, from her relationship with personal trainer Carlos Leon.

The couple are reportedly worth some $525 million, the bulk of that belonging to Madonna. Ritchie has an estimated $35 million fortune. They own homes in London, Los Angeles and New York, and a 1,200-acre retreat in Wiltshire, England.

Alan Kaufman, head of family law for London firm Finers Stephens Innocent, said he would be surprised if Madonna and Ritchie hadn't come to some arrangement before they were married.

Kaufman, who isn't involved in the case, also said he doesn't expect the case to end up in court because the couple would likely prefer to come to a private agreement both custodially and financially.

"They both had substantial assets and don't really need any money from each other," Kaufman said.

"This is not like the McCartney divorce," he said, referring to the acrimonious split between former Beatle Paul McCartney and Heather Mills earlier this year.

Day 1 in Spears case ends without jury

LOS ANGELES (AP) - The first day of Britney Spears' misdemeanor driving without a license trial ended Wednesday without a single juror being seated.

Potential jurors expressed a range of opinions on Spears and the matter during initial questioning. One man labeled the idea of a trial "ridiculous," while another potential panelist indicated he blamed the paparazzi, not Spears, for her troubles.

Only one person was dismissed from the jury pool on Wednesday. The woman indicated she had some previous contact with Spears' business manager.

Questioning was scheduled to restart on Thursday morning, and opening statements could begin later in the day if a jury is seated.

The charge is the last remnant of a case that stemmed from an accident last August in which Spears, who did not have a valid California license, hit a parked car and left the scene. Drivers are supposed to get a California license within 10 days of establishing residency.

Spears, 26, did not appear in court on Wednesday, and may not attend the trial. Her attorney said Wednesday that no final decision on Spears' participation in the trial had been made.

Her father, James Spears, may be called as a witness in the case, which is expected to last three days. Other potential witnesses include police officers and an online producer for gossip site X17online.com.

'Housewives' actor injured in motorcycle accident

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Gale Harold was in critical condition Wednesday after the "Desperate Housewives" actor crashed his motorcycle the day before, a hospital spokeswoman said. Harold was awaiting further tests at USC Medical Center, spokeswoman Adelaida De La Cerda said. She gave no further details on his injuries.

Publicist Nancy Seltzer said Wednesday that Harold fractured his shoulder, and "Housewives" creator and executive producer Marc Cherry said he apparently has swelling on the brain but is expected to recover.

"We're hearing he's going to be fine, but he's going to be recovering for a couple of weeks," Cherry said.

Selzer said no one else was injured, but did not provide further details on the Tuesday wreck, which was first reported by TMZ. The California Highway Patrol said it had no information about the accident.

Harold plays Jackson, the boyfriend of Teri Hatcher's character Susan Mayer on the ABC show. The character plays a pivotal role in the fifth season's eighth episode, a November sweeps installment which finds several Wisteria Lane residents trapped inside a nightclub fire.

Cherry said Harold had been filming scenes all week for the episode and had been scheduled to be on set Tuesday. He said they would await the actor's prognosis before deciding how to proceed, but that at least some changes would have to be made.

"We know we're going to rewrite one scene," he said.
