New Feature: Buddy Points

Every registered member now has "Buddy Points" and can contribute to the Buddy Points of other members. Here's how it works.

When you are reading posts by other members, you will see a little icon that looks like scales.



When you click on that icon, a little box will come up that asks if you approve or disapprove of that person's post. Comments left are viewable by the person you are commenting on.

After you click the "add Buddy Points" button, the system will automatically update that person's points with your rating.

Everyone starts with 2 points when they register. Points are gained when others give an approval rating on your posts.

The longer you are a member, the more posts you have and the higher your reputation is, the more your votes will affect other members' point levels.

Everyone has 25 votes per day and you must rate at least 10 different users before you can vote on the same person again.

Reputation levels are as follows:

0 points: member is a brand new buddy
10 points: member is a jewel in the rough
50 points: member is on a distinguished road
150 points: member is a special member
250 points: member has a lot of fans
350 points: member is on their way to the top
450 points: member is a rising star
550 points: member is a mover and a shaker
650 points: member has much to be proud of
1000 points: member is a wonderful contributer
1500 points: member is a name known to all
2000 points: member is a MBB VIP

Mainly, I thought this would be a good way for our members who don't have time to post frequently, to get a little recognition for their contributions. Post counts are great, but they are not the only measure of a good member.

We have a really nice group of people here. I don't think the new point system will be used to put people down. So far, I've seen the exact opposite.

I like this idea Karen! I am one of the members that does not post very often yet views this site at least 3 times per day. This system does provide balance among members allowing us to participate in a different way. Sometimes I have felt a little left out of various activities offered by MBB because inclusion related directly to the # of posts members offer to us. This is a great way for me to enjoy MBB and benefit from offering my feedback as well.

Cool idea Karen! I like it! I know of another forum that has a rep points system and its just an awesome way to pat a friend on the back and show them they are a special part of the forum.

How do we view our points and the responses? I cannot find them anywhere. I did figure out how to leave points though.

If you click on the user cp link in the upper left corner, you should be able to see the latest 5 points or comments you received.
