I had to send a copy of mine when I won 10thousand points back in August. seems it is standard practice for proof of who you are.

I wouldn't send a copy of the driver's license, to me, it wouldn't be worth risking identity theft. I've won a few prizes from different sites over the years, and not once was I asked to provide a driver's license.
