At least two people died when a wind-driven wildfires swept across the plains and forced 1,110 residents to evacuate from the town of Ordway, on Tuesday.
The entire town of Ordway has been evacuated due to a fast-spreading fire, estimated at 6,500 acres.
Highways 96 between Ordway and Olney Springs and Highway 71 between Ordway and Limon remain closed.
Four structures inside in the city and 16 outside the city perimeters are on fire. At least seven homes have burned to the ground.
Fourteen agencies are responding.
In the early afternoon, the superintendent of schools tells KKTV that 520 children were bussed out of town to safety to Sugar City. As of 6 p.m., the superintendent was making arrangements to have any remaining children in Sugar City transported to a school in Cheraw.
