I Want To Quit Smoking! Does Anyone Have Ideas
I really need to quit smoking. My dentist who did major surgery on my gums and pulled several teeth said smoking was a major factor. He won't replace several back teeth(it's been hard to chew since) as it would be hopeless.
My family doctor said I have slight emphasema(sp) already and I'm scared to end up with one of those oxygen tanks and a tube in my nose for the rest of my life. I also used teeth whitening strips and they really worked, but due to smoking of course it didn't last long.
Has anyone used something that worked for them? I know if I could find a job, I would at least cut back, but employment in Michigan is getting even worse. So being at home so much makes it more difficult.

I personally quit 2 years ago and I went cold turkey... I got rid of all the lighters in my house, the ash trays... all of it, threw it in the trash. It wasnt easy I wont lie to you but I was battling chronic bronchitis from smoking and was tired of feeling like crap so I made up my mind and that was the end of it. GL!

I, too, went cold turkey 18 years ago. I don't know that it works for everyone but it worked for me. Two of my BIL's went cold turkey also. Good luck to you, it is the best thing you can do for yourself!

I haven't tried this yet, but I bought some herbal stuff awhile back from mothernature.com. It would probably be on my "try it first list" only because it doesn't feed you more nicotine.

I quit a little over a year ago using Chantix. It is expensive, but think of how much you spend on cigs. You can get help paying for the rx (through Pfizer) if you have low income. I found this info when I did a search:
Patients who do not have insurance coverage for chantix can get help from chantix coupons as these coupons enable them to procure chantix free of cost or at a discounted price. You get the coupon from the doctor's office or from Pfizer.
You can also get a discount coupon/card that gives you a pretty good discount. You can put in your zip code & find the cheapest price.
www.freedrugcard.us/chantix.html
Worth a try cuz it does work .

I quit cold turkey also! It was very hard to stay away, BUT, I can get determined if need be. I just told myself that "I had the cigarettes, THEY didnt have me!. I was in control, not the cigarettes controlling me." I also got bronchitis quite a bit, and then I ended up in the hospital with pneumonia, and WOW, it really hurt. The Dr. wanted me to quit, I told him to give me my coat, and I reached in the pocket and took my FULL pack of cigs out, and threw them away right there! I told him if Cancer feels anything like this, I dont want any part of it. And I havent smoked since. Maybe you'll scare yourself into quitting, if you dont have enough willpower on your own. Emphysema (sp) isnt something you want to wait and see if it gets worse, cause it will. Good Luck, just make up your mind and do it! Its one of the best decisions you'll ever make for yourself.

My BIL tried this and it worked for him. I've heard of several people trying this and it seems to work long term.

It's been over a year for me. I hope it is permanent.

Good Luck!
I quit almost 15 years ago. I was ready, and started with the no smoking in the house, then the car, then only after dinner etc. My husband and our best friends smoked so it was tough, but eventually I went to a hypnotist (sp?), and threw them in the trash at his office, and never started back. My husband went the next day to the same Dr.,and started back in a few days, so you HAVE TO BE READY. Best $80 I ever spent. I would think there are clinics in Michigan that offer free or almost free services to help people quit smoking.
Good Luck!!

My father and grandfather quit cold turkey. any patient that was a smoker and quit had best results if they quit cold turkey.
Try it val.....think of the money you'd save
