DISH TV vs DIRECT TV or?
Seriously considering DISH TV. Looked over older input from MBB'ers - does anyone have experience or knowledge of both? Also, if I can have HBO, Showtime or Cinemax free for 3 months - does one stand out? Thanks in advance.

Sent you a PM
I'm a little partial to DirecTV. I used to work for them in customer service. My first job for them was to convet customers from Primestar to DirecTV. First time I ever had to answer phone calls from people, and they were all over the US. It was so much fun and nerve-racking at the same time.
Usually DirecTV offers 3 months of 2,3 or all of their premium channels. When I signed up this last time, I got 3 of the 4 premiums to try for 3 months free.

It depends if you like soaps, and hubby likes sports. On Dish, you don't get the Soapnet, and OLN in the Basic, But with Direct you do. I am a Direct TV subscriber, (was a Primestar for years till they switch). Onced a year I call and complain about What Dish does and they don't, and they give me great deals, like I got a free upgrade, new receiver plus one in bedroom, so grandkids can watch what they want (no more SpongeBob) for us. Also, we have a Lake house, with no TV service and we take the Kids receiver (we have installed an old dish) and have Direct TV there also, no extra charges. By the way I pay $53.95 a month, I have the Total Choice Plan, with the Outdoor Channel, which is $1.99 or it would be $49.99 (Dish has this, but not OLN)( these are hunting and fishing channels).

I have had both and currently have DirecTv. I HATE it! Mainly because of customer service and MANY incorrect billings. I NEVER had a problem with Dishnet at all with anything. The only reason we changed was because they dropped OLN which had the PBR on it. Then after we dropped them they got it back! LOL So my contract is up in November and I will be going back to Dishnet.
Good luck!

i have dish network and i does have soapnet channel. i am surprised that dee from northern alabma dont have soap net on dish but i does have soapnet and live in south alabama. i did sign up for directv last year for short time and it was lousy service. we have two boxes and they have problem from get go and we called them to repair or fix the problem , they came then two week slater the problem is same again and we called them and they came by and say that we have to get a new box and that we have to pay for the new box since other is broken, that was after we had directv for 6 weeks. and we say what, we didnt do anything to it. directv is the mess up the box and they say ohh too bad, you have to get new box . we was shock at the bad service and we decided to drop directv before three months is up and went back to dish net and we make the best decision and dish network came back and gave us tivo and wonderful service and more channels for less money and we are grateful for it.

i did get the apology letter from directv along with refund and offer us a new deal to sign again with them a while later after we drop directv and sign up with dishnet again. let me give you advise , if you decide to sign up with directv, just sign up for three months to see how you like it if you dont, you can drop out .then you can sign up with dishnet or another sateliitle service. i am sure that there is some people that have good service with directv. just keep your eyes and ears open and dont miss anything out.

Thanks to you all for your input. After talking to both outfits, going online to both sites, I'm unable to decide - I think I must be waiting for a great deal with what I want in programming and price so I've put off my decision. Plus, their websites frustrate me because they have hidden fees they don't mention ($5 extra for Dish local channels for instance). Thanks again.
