Obama Breaks 9/11 Promise, Sends Clinton to Campaign for Him

Buried deep within an MSNBC story accusing Mitt Romney of "throwing the kitchen sink" at Barack Obama is this gem: "Clinton stumps in Florida." So Obama has broken the campaigns' joint pledge not to campaign on 9/11.

9/11: A Clinton Legacy

Former President Bill Clinton is campaigning on the 11th anniversary of 9/11, hitting the stump for President Barack Obama’s re-election effort in swing states, despite the fact that both campaigns are supposedly taking the day off. That is typical Obama--take the high ground while others do the dirty work. Meanwhile, the New York Times renews its attack on Obama’s predecessor for “negligence” in ignoring warnings about the attacks. It seems only fair, then, to remind the American public that not only does Obama skip most of his daily intelligence briefings, but also that the Clinton administration bears some of the blame for allowing 9/11 to happen. The 9/11 commission identified several Clinton failures, including four missed chances to kill Osama bin Laden, and a failure to adopt “a more aggressive counterterrorism posture” after Al Qaeda’s initial attacks.

Virginia: Obama Won't Monopolize Airwaves Like 2008

In the first three weeks of September 2008, Barack Obama’s campaign ran 1,342 television commercials in the expensive Washington, D.C./Northern Virginia media market. John McCain, during that same period, ran a grand total of 8 commercials in the same region. This scenario, which was symbolic of Obama’s general fundraising advantage over McCain, will not repeat itself in 2012.

Smoking Pot Linked to Testicular Cancer

A peer reviewed journal published by the American Cancer Society has some bad news for male fans of "medicinal" marijuana. It may not be that good for men. The researchers found that those who smoked pot daily were twice as likely to develop testicular cancer.

Thud: ABC/WaPo Poll Shows No Obama Bounce Among Likely Voters

Obama does show a convention bounce gain among registered voters, with a 6% advantage over Romney. A more accurate assessment of likely voters have the candidates tied with no bounce: Obama registers with 49% of the vote and Romney a

Chicago Teacher Strike Poses Test for Unions

The massive teacher strike in Chicago offers a high-profile test for the nation's teacher unions, which have seen their political influence threatened as a growing reform movement seeks to expand charter schools, get private companies involved with failing schools and link teacher evaluations to student test scores.

Both Campaigns Eschew Politics on 9/11 Anniversary

Both President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney plan to take down their negative ads in honor of the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Neither planned to appear at overtly political events, although Election Day is never far from their agendas.

Congress to Vote on Stopgap Spending Bill

Yesterday, appropriators in the House released the text of a bill to prevent a government shutdown when the fiscal year ends on October 1. House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) agreed on the bill’s outline, and the House and Senate are expected to vote on the measure this week. Passage in the Senate seems assured.
