Helpmarker Need Cold Sore Help

Help! Anyone had luck with anything to help cold sores? I need something to put on my lips that isn't sticky (read below). Also tips and/or anything you know to make them go away faster. Any input would be really appreciated.

Right now I am using Carmex ez-on applicator, but it is sticky AND my cats are shedding. These last 2 days I have ended up with a lot of cat fur sticking to my lips. Yuk! You just can't say to your cats "Sorry, I can't pet you now. You're fur is driving me crazy".

I am taking L-Lycine pills, which is suppose to help.. I just started getting cold sores in March.

I tried Herpecin L lip balm on my first cold sore. It's thick like chap stick and took the top layer of skin off. Does it come in any other form than a lip balm?

I swear by the Abreva. It shortens the healing time by several days for me. I get about 10 or 12 a year and a have a cat and haven't had the unpleasant taste of cat hair yet! Good luck. Cold sores are no fun.

Zilactin dries after you put it on and it works well.

A few of my patients swear by ice cubes applied to the area of tingling before the cold sore breaks out.

Abeva works well but is like the consistency of hand lotion.

A dermatologist can prescribe an antiviral like Zovirax. If you are continually breaking out with new sores he may put you on a maintenace dose where you would take a pill or 2 a day for an extended period of time.

My mom does that ice cube thing and swears it works.

I used Abreva for Tyler who gets soars periodically and it helped it heal faster for sure. It's pricey ($14) for the little tube you get, but it only takes a little.
