Unhappy Husband's Plant Closing in 60 Days!

We just received notice today that my husband's plant will be closing in 60 days (right before Christmas)!

Things were looking up after the company was bought out after chapter 11 bankruptcy, but now this comes.

He can get unemployment, but I worry about health insurance. I have health issues (expensive medications), and no one can afford COBRA.

I have been unemployed for a while now, so I know he will have a very hard time finding another job (I know from experience).

Pray for us.

Sorry Dana
Regarding your medications.....most companies have indigent programs and many Md's have samples.
You never know unless you ask.
Seek out a social worker where you live and she may have suggestions for you too
I wish the two of you the best of luck.

Oh Dana, I'm so sorry! Christine's right - contact the manufacturer of your meds and see if they can help. You can apply for prescription aid plans at Walgreens and I think CVS. If any of your meds are generic, you can get a substantial price reduction. I don't know if you have minor kids, but our state as "KidMed" insurance for children 18 and under who are uninsured. they can help with education and retraining to help you find new jobs. We also have a clinic here that is specifically for people who are in your situation. It's not part of our charity system, but for those who work and have no insurance, or who have lost theirs due to layoffs. I hope things turn around soon!

Thank you for your kind words. We will need med insurance for our nine-year old daughter also, so I will look into that.

Oh, Dana. . .what horrid news. I do feel for and will pray for you and your family. DO contact your state health department. Here in Oklahoma our plan for chidlren in need is called "Sooner Start." I'm sure ALL states have medical assistance for uninsured children, but due to the state of the economy, even state agencies are having to cut back. Get in touch with them soon! Hoping for the best for you and your family!

So sorry to read about plant closing where your husband works. Hope things works out for you and your family. I am looking for insurance for me due to husband retiring. It is very expensive. Can understand why so many are without insurance.

We get to keep our insurance for now, so I made an appointment to see my Rhumatologist to get my knees done again (I get the Synvisc shots for arthiritis). Those are very expsensive, so I want to get them done before we lose our insurance.

I am going to see if I can get my daughter in to see her specialist ENT so she can get her hearing checked again (she has a slight hearing loss in both ears & the Dr. is monitoring it in case it gets worse).

We kind of knew this was comming, but we thought they could make it to the first of the year. It is not a very nice Christmas present (last day of work..if they make it that far will be Dec. 7).

Thanks for letting me vent, and thanks so much for your thoughts and prayers. Alot of people here in Michigan are not doing so good, I hope things get better soon.

I do Grams, thanks for reminding me.

I know that if God brings us to it, He will bring us through it.

I just worry about my son (who is 20 and away at school) and what health insurance I can find for him. I hope the college he attends has some type of program for uninsured kids. I told him to start checking now, so we can have something lined up when we lose our insurance.

Thanks for the prayers

Dana

Default Sorry to hear this

Hopefully you can get as much of the medical stuff in before the job/ins end. You have a little time to look into as much as possible. I have heard of people getting less notice than that so at least you have SOME time to start looking at ways to tighten the belt and make use of your benifits as much as possible.Would it be worth asking the doctor for more prescription than they normal allow at one time( extra bottle of meds or ask doctor for some samples? Or generics?)??( if you or family needs meds)Been a long time since I've had to redo a resume and look for work. I hope for the best for you. May be a time to take advantage of some schooling possibiltys??? I've heard of some people around here getting aid to retrain for a new/additional job skill ? ! Is that a possibilty there?
