When I awoke yesterday, I discovered we had lost power during the night and my DSL had to be reset. My 17 year old son is the only one who knows how to do it and he had to go to school. When he got home from track practice I was taking a nap. He redid the DSL and 20 minutes later, poof. My computer blew. Went last night to Best Buy and got a new one for $330 plus tax. It has so much more power than my old one. It has 100GBs compared to the 5 GBs of my old computer. The bad news is I lost all my book marks and stuff. Any ideas on how to recapture them?
If you can boot up the computer at all and can log in you can get your favorites saved onto a cd or floppy.
If you can boot it up here is the directory to look for for Internet Explorer favorites:
C:\documents and settings\your windows login name\favorites
If your hard drive is shot then it may not be recoverable and if you give it to a company they may charge you an arm and a leg. I would sooner keep the $$ and just put some heavy brainstorming into remembering.
Or if you have another desktop computer in the house you can bootup that Hard drive off of that computer and copy all that information to a cd, floppy or over a network if you have that too.
