I was a little surprised by the spelling words my 8-year-old son had this week.  Situation, directions and unusual were just a few of the more difficult ones. 

 

   Instead of making him write the words over and over until he memorized them, I got the letter tiles out of our Scrabble game and had him "write" the words that way.  I also made it a game by mixing up the letters and having him unscramble the spelling words. 

 

   In about 1 hour, over a 2 day period, he knew how to spell all the words on his list!  If you have a grade-schooler, give this a try!
