Every spring, sparrows build nests in the pillars on my patio, which is cute and all, but I hate having bird mess all over the place. Not to mention, there is always a baby bird that falls out and and I have to rescue it. This year, I decided to outsmart them. I placed styrofoam blocks in the nooks where the nests are usually built. The sparrows came, inspected their former turf, then flew off to build elsewhere.

I was out of town for a few days last week. When I got home, I was surprised to see large twigs and twine on my patio. Apparently, with the pesky sparrows out of the nooks, a pair of doves decided to build on top of the pillars! Perfect! Bigger birds, bigger messes!

Of course, I'm not going to do anything to get rid of them. I only try to prevent nest building, I don't destroy them once they are established. This morning at breakfast, my 11yr old son told me to look at the bright side. "Doves are the bird of peace and they will bring along good Karma." I hope Karma brings a poop scooper!

Have a great day,
