And a good time was had by all

Yesterday, I spent the day hanging out with my nieces, ages 8 and 10, and my 14-year-old daughter. We did a little shopping and went to see a movie (Muppets, which was a “nails-on-the-chalkboard” level bad movie. Skip it!). It’s been a while since I took younger kids to see a movie. I had forgotten how many spills are involved in such an outing – popcorn, soda, and seat boosters all took turns hitting the floor at least once. The nice thing was, none of this stressed me out! It’s funny how one is able to brush things like that off when it is not one’s own offspring.

When my nieces went home, I spent the evening with my son and nephew (both 12). We also went to see a movie (War Horse, which was very good!). The energy level between the girls and the boys was dramatically different. In the car, the girls were so chatty. They all had something to say and they wanted to say it all at once. I considered giving them a pen to pass around and telling them only the person with the pen could talk. In comparison, the boys seemed almost sullen. Most of our conversations centered on fun facts. They really seem to enjoy telling me things like how long a cockroach can live without its head.

It was nice breaking the kids up into groups like this. They each got to do the things they wanted to do and there was no fighting, whining, or bickering. I will definitely do this again!

Do you have a husband Karen?  I don’t think you have ever mentioned him and I’m curious!  I think it is wonderful what you did with the kids.  I give you five stars for that!!  Quite a difference in boys and girls isn’t there?  Sounds like you had fun.

    • Hi Patti! I’m divorced. But even before that, I never really included stories about my husband. Most adults prefer not being blogged about. lol 😉
