Yesterday was my son’s birthday. He is back in school, so I wanted to give him a little surprise by slipping a note into his lunch, telling him that I bought him a video game rental membership. When I picked him up, he didn’t mention the gift. He is not a typically ungrateful kid, so I thought that he might just have a lot on his mind and was forgetting to thank me. The conversation in the car went like this:
Me: “Did you enjoy your lunch?”
Me: “Was there was anything special in it?”
Boy: “Ummm… you put a lot of napkins in the bag?”
Me: “You didn’t take the napkins out?”
Boy: “No, I didn’t need them. I threw them away.”
I should have known better! Sleeves are the napkin of choice for 12-year-old boys! Next time, I will write a note on a candy bar and stick that in his lunch. There’s no way he would miss that!
